At Lioncrest, we believe learning to read is for every child — not just the ones who find it easy. LIFT is built on current, evidence-based reading research, not guesswork, so every student gets a program that actually matches how children learn to read.
Because words matter to God, we teach reading with care, patience, and joy. Every child — made in His image — is capable of learning to read well. Who a child is in Christ shapes how we teach them: with excellence, without comparison, and with confidence that no learner is beyond reach.
A clear path, level by level
LIFT moves students through 10 carefully sequenced reading levels — not grade levels — so every child is taught exactly where they are, not where a calendar says they should be.
Phonemic awareness — hearing, blending, and breaking apart the sounds in words.
Levels 1–2 · Foundations
Phonics-based reading of real words and short passages, with fluency tracked in words-per-minute and accuracy
Levels 3–5 · Decoding
Longer passages, faster target reading rates, and comprehension strategies — visualizing, predicting, questioning, and summarizing
Levels 6–10 · Fluency & Comprehension
Teachers assess each student every term, track growth on a simple, transparent scale, and adjust instruction to what that child needs next.
Why it works
LIFT draws on some of the most well-established reading research available, including Direct Instruction methodology, John Hattie's Visible Learning meta-analysis, and findings from the National Reading Panel. Teachers are trained to apply this research in real time — talking through student progress together, so no child's learning gets lost between terms.

Does LIFT replace English/Language Arts class?
